We are currently in Massachusetts for military duty, and we are taking full advantage of being in the Northeast by visiting as many fun spots as we can. We've visited Boston a few times and knew it was time to get back. Cambridge, the home of regal Harvard, is a very cool neighborhood of hip coffee joints, brunch spots, shops, and the jaw-dropping architecture from the university's campus.

For a gloomy August day, I wanted to wear layers to be prepared for the high temperatures midday, and the cooler coastal breeze at night. Since I had packed a bunch of neutrals, I threw this together in less than 5 minutes, which was great because I loafed around with my coffee until the very moment we had to go. My favorite high-waisted black flares and a simple black tee made a monochromatic base, which creates a cohesive column from top to bottom that flatters any figure, and requires very little thought. Reduced decision fatigue? Check.

Heavy jewelry feels extra sticky in the humidity, so I opted for a wide velvet choker that really pulled everything together. The thicker band looks a little more French and a little less 90s grunge, especially with a classic bag and simple bun. My rose gold wedges and nude cat eye sunglasses added a touch of femininity without looking overly girly.

After almost making this outfit entirely black-on-black (the no-brainer, effortless combo I lean towards for sight-seeing), I put away my black cardigan and grabbed this denim shirt instead, because I love how striking the blue is against the black.

The thing that makes an outfit great, is when you don't think about it after you put it on. I spent the entire day chasing my little girl, sipping iced tea, and exploring without once feeling like I needed to readjust something or do a mirror check, which I find to be completely draining. I may not be the most daring when it comes to day-to-day dressing, but nothing beats the feeling like I can do anything while still feeling stylish and comfortable.
