A Chic and Timeless Bun

Photo by Marquel Patton of Marque Makes

Ever since my first dance class at age 3, I have been a fan of the ever so chic ballerina bun. Since I am much more devoted to my craft of makeup, my skills in hairstyles are few, but this bun is an exception.

If you’re looking for a simple way to throw up mid-length to long hair, all you need is a french pin and a little muscle memory. I found these acrylic tortoise shell pins here on Amazon, and love how they don’t tug at my fine hair, yet keep things in place.

Start with your hair in your preferred parting; mine is the center. Next, decide how high on the head you want the bun to be, and begin gathering the hair into a ponytail at that spot.

Tightly twist the hair clockwise and begin to wrap it around itself like a coil, slowly.

Finally, insert the prong edge of the French pin downward into the edge of one end of the bun, dip it under the bun so it secures close to the scalp, and then push upward into the edge of the other side of the bun to keep it in place.

It may take a few tries to practice securing the pin, but once you get the hang of it, it will feel (and look) completely effortless.
